PROJECT MANAGER (EXPAT) Underground Ancillary Mobile Maintenance

Job Summary

The Project Manager will lead the underground ancillary mobile maintenance team at Oyu Tolgoi who consist of over 200 skilled maintenance crew. The role involves overseeing maintenance support activities, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in mining maintenance (underground mine is preferable) and a proven ability to manage large diverse, multicultural teams.


Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of technicians, supervisors, and support staff.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and build a cohesive team environment.
  • Implement strategies to enhance equipment reliability and team performance.
  • Implementation & Execution of training & skill upgrade program.

2. Maintenance Operations Support

  • Collaborate with the client’s planning and scheduling team to support preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure smooth execution of maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  • Focus on ancillary underground mobile equipment to achieve high operational reliability.

3. Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage maintenance budgets and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Support procurement and inventory management of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
  • Track and optimize maintenance costs while meeting contractual obligations.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Uphold strict adherence to safety standards and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure all underground maintenance activities comply with local and international regulations.

5. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and inventory.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on performance metrics, costs, and issues for internal and client stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements under the contract.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Drive initiatives to improve maintenance processes and equipment uptime.
  • Introduce industry best practices and innovative solutions to enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the team to identify and address operational challenges proactively.

7. Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with Oyu Tolgoi’s mobile maintenance and operational teams to ensure alignment with site objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with client representatives and contractors.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between MSM and the client for underground ancillary maintenance operations.

Qualifications

  • Trade certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in mining maintenance, with a strong focus on underground operations.
  • Proven experience managing maintenance operations in multinational and culturally diverse environments.
  • Proficiency with maintenance management systems (e.g., CMMS) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards in underground mining.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Mongolian is an advantage.

Working Conditions

  • Rotational schedule (4 weeks on, 2 weeks off) or residential in Ulaanbaatar with a 5/2 or 10/4 work week.
  • Work in remote and challenging conditions, including underground operations.
  • Extended working hours and on-call responsibilities will be required.
